Brisbane Colorectal offers a variety of services to help you achieve the relief you deserve

There are many issues that can occur when it comes to the anus, colon, rectum and abdomen, and as a result there are numerous procedures and investigations we perform to provide you with the best outcome depending on your situation. These include major and minor surgery, endoscopic investigations, and diagnostic evaluation for pelvic floor disorders (anorectal physiology).

Here are the more common procedures:

R

Anal fissure operations

R

Anal fistula surgery

There are many types of operations to choose from for anal fistulae.

The main problems with all these operations are that none of them are able to provide a 100% guarantee of success and healing of the fistula, with no risk to normal continence and function of the anus. We will explain this to you in detail at the time of your consultation.

At Brisbane Colorectal we will often recommend a combination of procedures, giving the patient a maximal chance of healing of the fistula. This may require a longer operation, or a longer hospital stay, but with a better chance of successful healing of the fistula. Different anal fistulae are best served with different operations, and we tailor the surgery we recommend to each patient’s fistula depending on a number of factors.

Anorectal Physiology Testing

An anorectal physiology test assesses the strength of your pelvis muscles, sphincter and nerves, while the ultrasound examines the structure of your pelvic floor muscles and any damage they might have had.

Anorectal refers to the anal canal and rectum, which are the parts of the bowel just inside your bottom.

Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a relatively painless procedure which enables your bowel to have a detailed inspection.

During the procedure, your surgeon will use a colonoscope, which is a long, thin, flexible tube with a small video camera at the top. It’s also referred to as a scope. The colonoscope is passed through the rectum into the colon. This means the lining of the large intestine can be properly inspected, and it also allows for procedures such as biopsies and the removal of polyps.
